My new blog, in addition to this one
Linked right over there ---------------------------------------------------------------------> called Sidetracks.
Rhetta doesn't call me Momma anymore
She calls us Corey and Rob now. I sincerely hope it isn't permanant. Most things in life aren't but with Rhetta you never know.
She has imaginary friends and sometimes goes by different names. When she is upset she'll jump up, say "Buzz will be right back!" and run off fussing to a remote part of the house. She'll take a few minutes to calm down, then come back, "Buzz is back!" and she'll seem like she got it out of her system.
Sometimes she'll call me Corey and I'll respond and call her Daughter. Her reaction is a very terse no. She'll repeat herself then as if to emphasize the first name theme, as in, get a clue and call me Rhetta because I am calling you Corey and that's just that.
It's a fun age, 5, almost 6 now. She has decided on some very concrete rolls for the people in her life and is not accepting that we can have more than the role she has assigned to us. I do momma things and her teacher does teacher things and never the twain shall meet. I am sneaky though. I am disquising teacher things in and amongst my momma things and she is learning despite herself. Daddy does daddy things and she seems fine with those. Then again she is taking on some of those momma and daddy roles herself further confusing her own role as big sister.
We're working on it. Just like everything else. Still, I miss being called Momma

Proud Bookworm
C & P'd directly from Bohemia-Anna where I was tagged at my request. Thanks Anna!
Here is the rule for the award:Pass it on to five other bloggers, and tell them to open the nearest book to page 46. Write out the fifth sentence on that page, and also the next two to five sentences...The CLOSEST BOOK, NOT YOUR FAVORITE, OR MOST INTELLECTUAL!!
I am staring at hundreds of books in front of me so I am going to close my eyes and pick one at random...
"...hypothetical injections i am
going to have dinner off a
man eating tiger if a vacuum gets
me i will try and send you word
before the worse comes to
the worst some people i told him inhabit
a vacuum all their lives and
never know it then he said it don t
hurt them any no i said i dont but it
hurts people who have to associate
with them and with these words
we parted each feeling
superior to the other and is that
feeling after all one of the great
desiderata of social intercourse
arch"
~ An excerpt from the merry flea within the lives and times of archy & mehitabel by Don Marquis, as written.
It takes a bit of stretching the mind, I think, to truly enjoy this kind of humor but I recommend it nonetheless.
Okay, I have no one really to tag so I guess it stops here for now unless those of you who read this want to do it twice. Let me know!

When I'm Down I Get More Done
Keeping busy is a sure fire way to completely ignore the fact I'm feeling down. Put something in my hands, especially something that needs to be altered or repaired, and the blues are pushed far back into the shadows. This afternoon I have cut out a pattern for the kids' new winter hat/scarf/mitten sets, sewn up the legs of a snap-up pair of pants because they fit a boy who refuses to stay snapped, contributed to the wood pile by getting rid of a wood-be (ha ha) project dresser that should never have asked to be resurrected (I mean, restored), set up some recycling drums and made nifty laminated signs that read "paper", "plastic", "metal", "aluminum", "glass", "cardboard", and "compost" for my own zero trash project (not really going to happen while I'm using paper diapers but we're working on that, too), unwired my tree-tree (an 18" holiday tree meant for miniature ornaments shaped only like trees) and gave it a bath, finished four new reusable shopping bags made from an old drape, made not one, not two, but three lists of crap I have to get done tomorrow between the hours of 8am and 9am, and totally forgot to go grocery shopping, oops.

I am so excited
This is the first election I've paid very much attention to. I admit, I paid somewhat close attention in 2000, the year Dan Rather lost his mind, mainly because he was too freakin' funny. This time I am so full of anticipation I am a nervous wreck. I really shouldn't even drive. I'm surprised my hair isn't falling out. I have been distracting myself with teen fiction. Unfortunately it turned out to be rather lame, in my opinion - too much murmuring, not enough substance - and it was not sufficient enough to distract me.
So go vote if you have not already. I'm not sure how I will survive without constant election coverage tomorrow. It'll be the one day this last 8 years I wish I had TV reception.
GO OBAMA '08!
