Momma's Dream Come True

Rhetta's hair over the years, and how it came to her asking me to fix her hair for the first time ever.

She has tolerated when I fixed her hair but it came undone immediately after the last picture every single time. She pulled it out. I had to be fast. She could not process the input so it translated as pain. Tangles were our nemesis, and because she liked to burrow she always had a ratty knot on the back of her head. We painfully brushed them out every few mornings. We found a method that worked but it meant leaving her hair loose. Finally giving up to tangles we went with a pixie. It served its purpose very well. She eventually decided to grow her hair regardless. She became more interested in dress up for dance recitals but continued to have sensory problems. Long hair became her objective in 3rd grade. Tangles became our nemesis again. 4th grade has brought on a desire for french braids. We developed a hairstyle to keep her bangs out of her eyes and still be able to french braid it. I taught myself how to french braid my own hair as a kid so while I was rusty it was just like riding a bike. The compromise is that I will let her wear them for days and it keeps her hair from getting tangled. Such a great moment for me as her mother.
