Housemates

This is what my cats have been bringing up from the cistern the last few days, yes inside the house from the basement. We've had garden snakes every year we've lived here. We generally don't see them until April and only ever outside. The cats are bringing them upstairs and presenting them to me. Lola, as a matter of fact, announced this one from the bedroom floor - made me come and get it. This little guy was #2 of 3 so far. Poor thing wrapped itself around my fingers for warmth. I just keep letting them go outside along the wall I know they frequent. They warm up in the sun and go about their business. Oh, and it's a fun nature lesson for the kids. Rhetta keeps her distance but Willon has gotten to petting them. I'm considering cutting off the cats' access to save the snakes. The snakes can eat the mice under the house and the cats can catch any that make it in during the winter.

He's Been Practicing His Smile

We've been making the most of our spring/spring-like days here. The other day we had a tea party out back in the evening sun. Willon was decked out in a diaper, snow boots and a yellow hard hat drinking his "tea", but of course that didn't last long enough for me to run and get my camera. He did however decide to practice smiling. In his words, "I'm so CUTE!" He really is.

Blowing Bubbles in the Bathtub

No, not THOSE kind of bubbles!

This is actually a double, nay triple feat of firsts. Not only is she blowing bubbles (that's 1), she is doing it without spitting (that's 2) AND her ears are underwater (that's 3). Yes, ladies and gentlemen, her EARS are UNDERWATER! She was quite blasé about it, in fact, like she's been doing it for years. Cool as a cucumber. She did this for about 20 minutes, really getting the hang of it. She might swim one of these days after all!

Pantry

Food used to be crammed in and stacked atop cabinets in the kitchen, vying for space with the pots, pans and dishes. Now, thanks to my wonderful husband, the coat closet in the laundry room is now a food pantry.

Is There Joy in Garbage?

There is if your sanitation specialist is the coolest guy on Earth next to Daddy.

Since he could walk Willon has rushed to the door to watch the garbage truck back down our lane to collect our refuse. It's one of those thrills that never gets old for a kid. Our guy, Dean, just got a brand new truck and today stopped and let Willon check it out. He was timid at first, being so high off the ground in the driver's seat. He later got over his shyness and in great detail explained to us everything he knew about the truck, in the longest run-on sentence ever spoken.

Sneak!

I found out today that Twizzlers makes a Hershey's chocolate twist now so naturally I had to buy a package. Willon couldn't wait until we got home and finished our lunch so we could open them up and try them. I tore a corner off the wrapper and took four of them out, handing them to him. He made many happy noises then immediately divided them up, "Here's one for you and one for ME! Here's one for you and one for ME!" Now we each had two. He settled himself at the table and I sat down at the computer. I checked a few things, did some calculations, when here he is at my side. He spied my two treats yet untouched and exclaimed quite innocently, "Oh loook! There's two! One for you and one for ME!" and off he went with half of my share.
