South Rim

I didn't take a whole lot of pictures. The wind had kicked up to a fierce, and cold, gale. Rhetta wouldn't get out of the car. Willon wouldn't stop heading to the edge. But the Black Canyon of the Gunnison was still a wonderful sight. You wouldn't really guess there's a huge gaping maw between our green valley and the West Elk Wilderness. The Black Canyon cuts through the Western Slope like a fresh gash on a prize fighter's face, already riddled with scars and imperfections.

It is fall and the leaves are changing. Yesterday was Color Sunday. I didn't shoot a single tree. I simply wasn't in the mood. I got a couple shots of the canyon.

Looking northwest to the Grand Mesa in the distance.

Looking southeast toward the East Portal.

Here are some other pictures I didn't take but that will give you a much better idea of how incredible our backyard really is. :)
