♫ Happy Earth Day To Yoooou! ♫

We celebrated Earth Day as an unbirthday. Rhetta missed her BFF's birthday and her BFF missed hers so we got them together today.

We try to spend every Earth Day out on our mountain (Uncompahgre Plateau) collecting trash along the roadway. Sadly all we ever find are beer bottles and cans but we also find stuff which qualifies as archeological. Today we found an old midden pile from multiple generations ago and a bi-face piece of chert.

We also get to enjoy being outdoors. The views are breathtaking and the flora is often dainty but beautiful in its own right.

Here are some shots from today:

Our Earth Day brownies with classic Pillsbury white frosting mixed with creamy peanut butter. Oh yeah, YUM!

Juniper. It always amazes me how they can grow all twisted an gnarled like that, and under near constant drought conditions.

Me and my honey. Say squee! only in a very tired kinda way. (heh)

Everyone filled their bags in just a short stretch. Funny thing is, most of it blended in and was difficult to spot and retrieve. From the truck on the road it looked pretty clean already. But we know from past years to get down and look closer.

This was our view walking back to the truck, northish. The canyon below is California Canyon and the mountain in the distance is The Grand Mesa.

It was hot, whereas in years past it would still be quite chilly and maybe raining. We've had to postpone our clean-up day until well after Earth Day before. Read into that what you may but really it just meant we got to do our thing on the day we were meant to do it. Earth Day. Thank you Earth. We love you.
